A 2021 study by Desiree R. Jones, Kilee M. DeBrabander, and Noah J. Sasson,
Effects of Autism Acceptance Training on Explicit and Implicit Biases toward Autism (Autism, 25(5), 1246–1261), found that autism acceptance training using factual information and first-person accounts was linked to lower explicit stigma, higher expectations of autistic ability, and more reported social interest among non-autistic participants. The same intervention didn’t reduce implicit bias, and the researchers noted the study didn’t establish long-term change in real-world behavior. Autism Through Talent uses a different format, so those results can’t be read as evidence for this exhibition.
